Faculty Integration of Technology in WLU Courses

Technology is integrated across and within the Bachelor of Education courses at WLU rather than taught as an isolated entity.  This approach to technology introduction is based on a model of teacher knowledge that incorporate Technology, Pedagogy, and Content, referred to as Technological, Pedagogical, Content Knowledge (TPACK).  Emerging and established technologies are considered as pedagogical tools that both impact and encourage learning of content.  The WLU Pre-service program is preparing teachers to teach in a digital age and the integration of technology is an integral part of this preparation.  Faculty are continously developing their own skills and knowledge around digital technologies and their influence on learning and instruction.  Teacher Education Candidates bring their own knowledge, skills and experiences related to technology to the program and work together with the faculty, staff, and PDS sites to integrate these tools in courses and the classroom.

Goals of the Technology Intensive Approach:

  •  Graduates will understand the role of technologies new and old in education.
  •  Graduates will be at ease using and integrating technology in their lessons, classrooms, schools and lives.
  •  Students will experience a mobile, collaborative learning environment.
  •  Students will gain the ability to learn and use new technologies as they develop.

So far I'm impressed at how far Laurier's technology has evolved since I graduated. (Thought I'd be the first to post a comment. )

Fabulous Tammy! Glad to see that you found your way in. I added some tips for using Chalk and Wire from our short session the other day. Hope this space is helpful. We need to have someone add all of our TECs! I added our TechTECs as editors--a step up from writers--so if you have useful suggestions, have at it!
